All 68 passengers of a motorized banca were rescued by authorities and crew of another vessel more than an hour after their boat capsized in municipal waters of Carlos P. Garcia (CPG) on Sunday.

Inspector Moises Amba, officer-in-charge of the CPG Police Station, said that the MBCA Renel Cruiser tipped over at 12:10 p.m. off Barangay Butan in said town.

According to Amba, the boat was travelling from Mandaue City to Brgy. Pitogo, CPG, when it rammed into a hard piece of wood in an abandoned fish sanctuary.

The wood punctured the boat’s hull causing it to tip over and start to sink within several minutes.

Crew members of the seacraft reportedly did not notice the wood as it was at level with the sea.

There were no fatalities and all passengers including children were accounted for as the ill-fated boat capsized near the shore of Brgy. Butan.

The stranded passengers then boarded the MBCA Eagle Express and were ferried to the port in Brgy. Pitogo while said vessel pulled the damaged MCBA Renel Cruiser to shore. (Allen Doydora)
