Island City Mall ushers the Yuletide season with the ceremonial lighting of Christmas lanterns at 6:00 o’ clock tonight at the Island Sky area, with party band CenterStage and local performers Alma Mida Golosino and Mecerdita Quiachon.

The lanterns to be lighted are actually the 29 official entries of the “Ilaw ng Pasko” Parol-Making Contest of Island City Mall which will be hung in the lamp posts and poles around the perimeter railings outside the mall throughout the holiday season. Some are also displayed near the Activity Center and at the mall strips. These lanterns are quite different from commercial ones as these are made from indigenous and recyclable materials.

“Everyone will be amazed or delighted to see these brightly-lit environment-friendly lanterns which will not just deck the mall but add glitter to the atmosphere of Christmas merriment,” said mall manager Mario Cirujales who will be the one to switch the power tonight to officially light the lanterns.

Meanwhile, well-known local designers and artists Christopher Ramasola, Michael Yu, and Joe Ignacio will serve as the judges to pick up the top three lanterns. The prizes are P15,000, 1st Place; P10,000, 2nd Place; and P8,000, 3rd Place. The best parol will also receive another prize of P5,000, which is separately intended for any outreach projects of the grand winner in his/her own barangay. The parol with the most number of likes in Facebook will also win a special prize of P2,000. All non-winning entries will receive a consolation prize of P3,000 each.
