No government official involved in illegal drug activities was named by Pres. Rodrigo Duterte during a meeting with mayors in Malacañang on Wednesday amid expectations from the public of having drug-linked Bohol officials identified.

According to Bohol League of Municipalities president Clarin Mayor Allen Piezas, Duterte only reiterated his government’s drive against drugs, corruption and criminality during the meeting.

He said that Duterte also again threatened to kill drug-linked mayors and other government officials if they do not end their involvement in illegal drug activities.

During the meeting, Duterte brandished a thick document purportedly containing the names of officials involved in illegal drug activities but was not shown to the mayors, said Piezas.

The president then appealed to the mayors to continue supporting the government’s nationwide campaign against the narcotics trade.

Duterte assured the local chief executives that he will help them should they encounter problems as they move to eradicate drug activities in their respective areas.

Piezas noted that the president also told the mayors to continue extending support to policemen in their localities who are in the frontlines in the war against drugs.

After the announcement of the meeting among Duterte and the country’s mayors on Tuesday, hundreds of netizens expressed optimism that drug-linked Bohol officials will be identified during the meeting.

The netizens commented speculations on the agenda of the meeting on a Facebook post of The Chronicle which was shared by DYRD Bohol Ang Kasaligan.

The Chronicle’s Facebook post was shared 1,898 times and reached 198,393 people. (Allen Doydora)
