Secretary Gina Lopez will be arriving in Bohol this week for the second time since she was appointed by President Duterte as head of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

Lopez will be the guest speaker during the culmination of the women’s month celebration in Bohol at the Bohol Cultural Center on Wednesday, said Provincial Board Member Alexie Tutor during the PB’s session on Friday.

The event will also be attended by Gov. Edgar Chatto who will lead the induction of the newly elected officers of the Bohol Federation of Women’s Association.

Lopez was also invited as guest of honor in two environmental activities in Bohol in the previous months.

She was last in the province in November last year when she led the inspection of a 24-hectare plantation and coffee nursery at Cambugsay Healing Hills in Ubay.

Lopez was unable to attend however the launch of a reforestation program at Banacon Island in Getafe on February.

In previous months, the secretary has faced strong opposition particularly in her confirmation, largely due to her mining crackdown which is protested by large-scale miners.

Lopez, in February, ordered the closure of mines that adversely affected mountains and watersheds. (Rey Tutas)
