Rice supply of the National Food Authority (NFA) 7 for Bohol and the rest of the region remains sufficient with 700,000 bags or 35,000 metric tons of rice, based on the latest inventory conducted by the agency.

According to NFA Bohol Manager Ping Evasco, consumers in Central Visayas need not worry over rice supply as it remains abundant.

However, the government through the NFA still needs more supply in preparation for “calamity-prone lean months” from July until September.

Based on field monitoring of the NFA, traders are projected to buy rice during the dry season at P18 to P20 per kilo.

Evasco also pointed out that the sole measure to grow the rice buffer stock and reach its required amount is to import.

Next week, a buffer stock from Cebu to Bohol is expected to be delivered.

Meanwhile, price range of rice in the province remained the same in recent weeks, said Evasco.

Regular milled rice is still sold between P35 to P38 pesos per kilo, and well milled rice is at P40 to P43 per kilo, while premium rice is at P45 to P54. (Allen Doydora)
