Philippine National Police (PNP) Director General Ronald Dela Rosa on Wednesday personally paid his final respects to the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) cop who was slain in the Inabanga clash last week.

Dela Rosa proceeded to the house of PO2 Rey Anthony Nazareno in Barangay Ulbujan, Calape at past 7 p.m. after joining a security briefing in Tagbilaran City.

The PNP chief, President Duterte and other officials discussed in length the Inabanga incident and the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) meetings in the province.

Dela Rosa honored Nazareno by awarding him with the Medal of Valor which was given to the slain policeman’s mother, Gaudencia.

Meanwhile, Duterte was unable to visit the wake of Nazareno due to unspecified complications.

However, the President had previously offered his condolences to the policeman’s family and had given flowers and extended financial aid to the Nazarenos through Malacañang staff.

In his short message, Dela Rosa honored Nazareno who he said died defending Boholanos and keeping the province safe from threats.

Nazareno’s family in turn expressed gratitude to Duterte and Dela Rosa for the honor extended to the police officer.
