A 15-year-old student was accidentally shot in the foot by a security guard who was playing with his service firearm while on duty at the victim’s school on Thursday afternoon.

Suspect Christopher Alo, a 22-year-old resident of Barangay Guiwanon, Baclayon was reportedly twirling his gun before it fell as he was about to holster it.

Based on police investigation, the gun went off as it hit the ground while the bullet went straight to the foot of the victim, a Grade 9 student at the Immaculata High School.

Police said that students were about to go out the school’s gate when the incident happened at past 4 p.m.

Alo’s .38 revolver was loaded with two live bullets prior to the accidental firing of the pistol.

The suspect was temporarily detained by the Baclayon police but was released on the same day.

Reports indicated that the victim’s family did not express intent to file charges against Alo, as they only sought for the suspect to pay for the student’s medical treatment.

The victim is still in the hospital but is in stable condition. (A. Doydora)
