Drowning Chinese man, 72, saved by daughter in Panglao

A 72-year-old man from China was rescued by his daughter from drowning in waters off Panglao at 9 a.m. on Monday, said the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).

Victim Li Zian Zhong who was a guest at the Amarela Resort in Barangay Libaong, Panglao was rushed to a private hospital in Tagbilaran City following the incident.

Seaman 1st Class Wesley Bayron of PCG Panglao told the Chronicle that the victim’s daughter Li Mang, 40, saved her father by administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation or CPR.

The older Li may have suffered from hypertension causing him to start drowning, said Bayron.

Employees of the resort immediately responded to the incident and called authorities.

Personnel of the PCG, tourist police and Tarsier 117 were also alerted and later on arrived at the scene.

According to Bayron, Li was taken to the Holy Name University Medical Center where he was treated. (R. Tutas)
