Products of Marcela Farms Inc. (MFI) are safe for consumption and are free from bird flu contamination, said an official of the Alturas Group of Companies.

According to Ariel Fullido of Alturas, parent company of MFI which is Bohol’s largest supplier of poultry products, their chicken meat are delivered frozen from their local farms to retailers and restaurants.

“Amid the bird flu outbreak, we have nothing to worry. MFI products particularly common ones such as chicken and egg are 100 percent free from bird flu,” said Fullido in Cebuano.

MFI’s farm is located in Cortes while it has a separate breeder farm also in the province, he added.

A large chunk of MFI’s supply is distributed to restaurants including fast food chains with branches nationwide including Max’s Restaurant, Jollibee Foods Corporation and Kuya J Restaurant.

“The two fast food giants here, Max’s and Jollibee we are giving them supply and also other restaurants. Our deliveries to them are directly from our farms as these are all local products,” said Fullido.

Meanwhile, the provincial government through Gov. Edgar Chatto banned the entry of poultry products from Luzon where a bird flu outbreak struck two weeks ago, particularly in Pampanga.

The directive was intended to boost a memorandum issued by the Department of Agriculture (DA) prohibiting the shipment of Luzon poultry products to other parts of the country.

Chatto formed a task force led by provincial veterinarian Dr. Stella Marie Lapiz to strictly implement the DA ban. (A. Doydora)
