The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) on Tuesday turned over a P3-million community fish landing center in Baclayon to the town’s local government unit (LGU).

The official turnover was led by BFAR 7 director Dr. Allan Poquita and Baclayon Mayor Benecio Uy who in turn will entrust the facility to the town’s fishing communities.

Baclayon’s one-story fish landing center which is located near the town’s port is equipped with a fish drying area, an administrative office and a 200-sqm refrigeration facility, said Leo Bongalos, provincial fishery officer of BFAR Bohol.

The facility was constructed by Zamboanga-based Wil Tan Construction and the latest fish landing center to be completed in Bohol.

It is among six other completed fish landing centers located in Inabanga, Tubigon, Clarin, Calape, Carlos P. Garcia and Anda which were built in a bid to promote inclusive growth in the sector and lower fish prices.

Meanwhile, construction of fish landing centers are still ongoing in Ubay, Talibon, Getafe and Loon.

Another batch of towns including Lila, Panglao and Dauis are also expected to start construction of the same facility in their respective areas through BFAR. (RT)
