Bohol school principals to undergo drug test briefing

After district supervisors, public secondary school principals are set to undergo an orientation on the implementation of the Department of Education’s (DepEd) drug testing on students and teachers.

Provincial Schools Division Supt. Wilfreda Bongalos told dyRD Balita that district supervisors have already completed the briefing on the program’s implementation which was carried out by lawyers.

According to Bongalos, the local education sector is ready to implement the drug testing and is already awaiting the list of schools included in the initiative.

The DepEd’s head office will be deciding which Bohol schools will be among the first to be subjected to the random drug testing which will cover both students and faculty, said Bongalos.

Earlier, DepEd Sec. Leonor Briones noted that the initiative will be carried out starting September this year as part of efforts to rid schools of illegal drug activities.

The Cabinet secretary highlighted the need for the program as the illegal drug use and sale have spread into educational institutions.

The DepEd has been extending support to the Duterte administration’s ferocious campaign against the illegal drug trade. (Rey Tutas)
