The local government unit of Tagbilaran City is still aspiring to establish a large sports center which could host various sporting events such as boxing.

This was bared by Tagbilaran Mayor Baba Yap last week during a pre-fight press conference for the boxing match between Boholano Mark “Magnifico” Magsayo and Japanese Shota Hayashi in the city.

According to Yap, the construction of a multipurpose sports center is among listed infrastructure projects of the government.

Yap noted that although the city’s current priority initiative is the establishment of the Tagbilaran City College, the sports center project is still lined up for implementation.

The establishment would be ideal for hosting various activities including major sports events in Tagbilaran City, he said.

For now, such events are being held at the privately-owned Bohol Wisdom School Gymnasium.

The Magsayo-Hayashi fight likewise will be held at the said gymnasium.

Magsayo (17-0-0), a Tagbilaran City native, will be fighting for the first time in his hometown on November 25.

He will be defending his WBO International Featherweight championship against Hayashi. (A. Doydora)
