A 49-year-old man was stabbed dead by two brothers using pieces of rebar in Guindulman on Tuesday afternoon, police said.

Guindulman police investigator SPO1 Ranolfo Asilo identified the victim as Asterio Timbal, a resident of Barangay Canhaway in the said town.

According to Asilo, Timbal was repeatedly stabbed by Arnie Mendez and Arnulfo Mendez Jr. at around 2:30 p.m. near a karaoke bar in the town.

The victim was reportedly drinking with one Gerald Husay inside the said bar in Barangay Bato, Guindulman when both suspects suddenly arrived, each wielding a rebar with sharpened tips.

One of the brothers then suddenly stabbed Timbal in the neck, said Asilo.

The initial stabbing led to a chase as Timbal was reportedly still able to flee.

However, the suspects threw a stone at him and hit his head causing him to fall down to the ground near a house in the same village.

According to police, the Mendez brothers then finished the victim off by repeatedly stabbing him with a rebar.

Timbal was still rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Meanwhile, police launched a hot pursuit operation leading to the arrest of both suspects in the neighboring town of Mabini, said Asilo.

Police recovered from the suspects the rebar believed to have been used to kill Timbal.

The suspects are now detained at the Guindulman Police Station pending the filing of charges against them.

According to Asilo, the Mendez brothers were in a longstanding feud with the victim which may have driven them to commit the crime.

Both suspects are noted troublemakers and have caused physical injuries to other residents of the town when they get drunk, Asilo said.

However, none of the other victims filed complaints against them, he added. (Allen Doydora)
