Suspect Apolonio Libres was arrested by police in the wee hours of Tuesday, a few hours after he allegedly hacked and stabbed his son to death in Mabini town.

A 30-year-old man on Monday night was allegedly stabbed and hacked to death by his 74-year-old father who was later arrested by authorities still wielding a bloodied bolo used to kill his son, police said.

PO1 Leonil Beyonas of the Mabini Police Station identified the victim as Avelino “Abe” Libres and the suspect as Apolonio Libres, both residents of Sitio Caoliva, Abaca in Mabini.

The victim’s live-in partner, Renelyn Padayon, 19, told police that Avelino was sleeping in the living room of their house while she and their son were inside the bedroom when the brutal killing started.

According to Padayon, she woke up to a loud noise coming from the living room prompting her to check on Avelino.

She allegedly then saw Apolonio holding a bolo which he used to impale Avelino who was lying on a bed.

Out of fear, Padayon fled the house and went across a rice paddy to her sister’s house to seek help and later report the incident to police.

According to Beyonas, they arrested the suspect at around 1 a.m. on Tuesday, a few hours after Padayon reported the murder to authorities.

Apolonio was still holding the suspected murder weapon which was drenched in blood when he was found inside a small cottage in Mabini, Beyonas said.

A physician who examined Avelino’s body said that the victim sustained hack and stab wounds in his neck, shoulders and head which caused his instantaneous death.

Meanwhile, a parricide case is set to be filed against Apolonio today.

Based on their initial investigation, Beyonas said that Apolonio may have killed Avelino as revenge for previous abuses allegedly committed by his son against him.
