Commission on Elections (Comelec) and law enforcement officials in Bohol are set to convene this week to prepare for the barangay and Sangguinang Kabataan polls in May, particularly in setting up security measures.
Comelec provincial election supervisor Atty. Elesio Labaria told dyRD Balita that officials from the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the military who will be spearheading the security preparations will be attending the meeting.
Authorities will also soon be identifying the election “hotspots” or watch list areas which will be monitored by security forces.
In Cebu, regional officials of the Comelec, PNP and military on Wednesday conducted a meeting to discuss security plans ahead of the May elections.
Comelec Central Visayas director Atty. Rafael Olaño led the security briefing.
According to Olaño, the Comelec is confident that the Police Regional Office 7 and the military’s Central Command will be able to maintain peace and order during the elections.
The Comelec is also not expecting any violence or serious conflicts during the barangay election as it does not have significant participation from political parties, said Olaño. (RT)
