A 40-year-old man prevented a mentally ill suspect from possibly hacking his parents to death in Loay on Saturday.

According to police, Julian Bongcas arrived just in the nick of time to stop suspect Gregorio Simbajon, 65, from continuing to hack his parents, Julia, 68, and Florencio, 74, inside their home in Brgy. Concepcion.

“Dako gyud tong posibilidad nga mapatay ug wa pa nakaabot ang ilang anak,” said SPO1 Michael Armendez of the Loay Police Station.

Simbajon allegedly barged into the Bongcas’ residence at around 10 a.m. and hacked Julia with a scythe hitting her in the forehead without apparent reason.

The suspect then slashed Florencio in his back, said Armendez based on their initial investigation.

Simbajon’s rampage was only stopped when Julian arrived at the house and fought Simbajon to take the scythe, he added.

Julian was able to subdue Simbajon allowing responding police to arrest the suspect. Julia and Florencio meanwhile were rushed to a hospital.

Both victims have been treated for their injuries and discharged from the health facility.

According to Amendez, Simbajon will be charged with two counts of frustrated murder. (Allen Doydora)
