A former police officer who has been tagged as one of Central Visayas’ most wanted persons was committed to the Bohol District Jail (BDJ) after he was arrested in Ilog town, Negros Occidental in April.

According to BDJ warden Supt. Felipe Montejo, former PO2 Apolinar Galapin was transported to the jail facility by Bacolod police officers at 12 p.m. on Thursday.

He is set to be arraigned before the Regional Trial Court Branch (RTC) 48 in Tagbilaran City for murder.

Galapin, after 10 years in hiding, was apprehended by operatives of the Western Visayas Regional Intelligence Unit and Ilog police.

PO3 Joel Orapa of the Cortes Police Station said that Galapin, a native of Poblacion, Candijay, was tagged as suspect in the fatal shooting of Leo Lagrada, a relative of a former Bohol congressman, 10 years ago.

The rift between Lagrada and Galapin stemmed from a death threat reportedly issued by the former.

“Gi-ingnan man sa biktima nga kulban ug kaldero ang pulis, mao tong na triggered out siya ug iyang gipusil,” said Orapa.

Galapin was allegedly drunk during the fatal shooting and was an active officer of the Cortes Police Station.

He went into hiding after he was dismissed from the service and the RTC 48 ordered his arrest.

Meanwhile, the Police Regional Office 7 offered a P140,000-reward for information on his whereabouts, but the suspect remained elusive. (Allen Doydora)
