Fellow jail guards of slain JO2 Ricky Encila are in fear after he was gunned down by at least two assailants just a few kilometers from their workplace at the Talibon District Jail (TDJ).

“Mao lagi ni ron nag-panic mi kay nganong nahitabo ni, mao ng kami syempre kauban niya nahadlok gud pud mi kay nakuhaan mi og usa mao ng depensa pud mi sa amoang personal na [safety],” said SJO3 Beronico Doroy of the TDJ.

According to Doroy, Encila was not involved in any known conflicts at work while he was assigned as jail guard for the TDJ’s intelligence unit.

Doroy however could not determine whether or not Encila had enemies outside of work.

Personnel of the TDJ have joined calls for justice for their fallen colleague.

Meanwhile, investigations on the incident continued and authorities have formed a Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) in a bid to hasten the resolution of the murder case.

According to SPO1 Larkin Yuag of the Talibon Police Station, the SITG led by Bohol police chief Sr. Supt. Angeles Geñorga will be holding a case conference on Friday.

Yuag is optimistic that they will be able to establish a motive for the killing after the conference.

“Nag-human sa among case conference ugma, naa nay taw na mo-announce ana kung unsa g’yuy motibo sa nahitabo,” said Yuag.

Investigators have started to gather information from those close to the victim including his family in San Miguel town and from possible witnesses of the gun attack, he added.

Encila while riding his motorcycle and heading towards his home in San Miguel town was shot dead by at least two motorcycle-riding gunmen in Barangay Balintawak, Talibon on Tuesday afternoon.

He sustained multiple gunshot wounds mostly in the head.

Police found in the crime scene 13 fired spent shells, six from a .45 caliber pistol and seven from a 9mm pistol. (AD)
