Carmen deputy jail warden shot dead in Tagbilaran

A Carmen District Jail (CDJ) official was shot dead outside his home in Tagbilaran City by still unidentified gunmen on Sunday afternoon.

Tagbilaran City police investigator PO2 Renell Bibat identified the fatality as SJO4 Medard Rhais Bompat, 43, CDJ assistant warden.

Bompat was hanging washed clothes outside his house at Lower Sto. Niño in Barangay Taloto, Tagbilaran City when he was attacked by four motorcycle-riding suspects at 12:15 p.m, said Bibat based on their initial investigation.

According to Bibat, two of the four men who were riding two black motorcycles, a Honda XRM and a Honda Wave, shot at Bompat at least three times.

Bompat was hit once in the head and twice in his body.

He was still rushed to the Ramiro Community Hospital by his neighbor and was treated for his gunshot wounds.

However, Bompat later succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead at 2:55 p.m.

Meanwhile, crime scene investigators found cartridge cases fired from 9mm and .45 caliber guns outside Bompat’s home.

According to Bibat, police investigators continued to conduct a deep probe to identify the motive and suspects behind the crime.

Bompat was previously assigned to the Bohol District Jail and Talibon District Jail before being reassigned in Carmen.

He was the son of radio broadcaster Richard Bompat. (Weli Maestrado)
