Army promotes Boholano to brigadier general

Decorated Philippine Army (PA) officer Col. Ramon Evan T. Ruiz, who is a Boholano, has been promoted to a brigadier general of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

The PA donned the rank of brigadier general to Ruiz in a ceremony at the army headquarters in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City on July 9, 2018.

Lieutenant General Rolando Joselito Bautista, PA commanding general, led the formal donning of ranks ceremony wherein two other officers were also promoted.

Bautista donned the second star rank to now-Major General Dinoh A. Dolina and the first star rank to now-Brigadier General Elias H. Escarcha.

Ruiz is the commander of the PA’s 53rd Engineer Brigade.

He held key positions in the army before assuming his current post.

Prior to leading the 53rd Engineer Brigade, he held posts including Housing Division chief; battalion commander; deputy Army chief of engineers for Administration; deputy to the assistant chief of staff for Logistics, G4 Philippine Army; and chief of the Army Real Estate Office.

He was awarded the following: Distinguished Service Star, Outstanding Achievement Medal, 4 Gawad sa Kaunlaran Medals, 22 Military Merit Medals, 20 Military Commendation Medals, 8 Outstanding Instructor Awards, 2 Meritorious Achievement Medals, Visayas and Mindanao Anti-Dissidence Campaign Medals, 2 Sagisag ng Ulirang Kawai, a Command Plaque for being adjudged as Officer Instructor of the Year 1994, Award of Merit as Commander of the Best Battalion of the Year 2008 and 53rd Engineer Bde President Carlos P. Garcia Leadership Award.

According to the PA website, he was also accorded the Silver Medallion by the Philippine Military Academy and the prestigious Totus Tuus Award by University of Santo Tomas Education High School General Alumni Association.
