Ex-barangay councilor critically wounded in Pilar shooting

A former barangay councilor in the town of Pilar remained in critical condition after he was shot by a still unidentified male gunman outside a cockpit arena in Barangay Poblacion, Pilar on Sunday night.

Police Officer 2 Kit Garcia of the Pilar police identified the victim as Elmer Amuncio, 40, of Barangay Bayong.

According to Garcia, Amuncio sustained gunshot wounds in his chest, stomach and leg causing him to fall while the assailant fled on board a motorcycle.

He was rushed to a nearby health center but was later transferred to a private hospital in Tagbilaran City for emergency medical attention.

Garcia said that they have yet to identify the motive behind the shooting.

However, Garcia noted that complaints have previously been raised against Amuncio for physical violence but so far no charges have been formally filed against him.

Even when Amuncio was still a barangay official, police had already been receiving complaints against Amuncio for physical attacks, said Garcia. (AD)
