Vessel runs aground off Talibon; 64 passengers rescued

A cargo and passenger vessel ran aground at a shallow area in waters off Talibon as it was travelling from Bato, Leyte to Cebu in the wee hours of Tuesday.

According to Seaman 2nd Class John Sinajon of the Philippine Coast Guard in Tagbilaran City, the M/V South Pacific was stranded at the Danajon Bank starting past 1 a.m.

The PCG-7 was alerted of the incident and was able to rescue all of the vessel’s 64 passengers and 19 crew members.

Rescuers reportedly arrived at around 9 a.m.
