Police arrest 4 men behind knife attacks in Candijay, Alicia

Police on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning arrested four members of the “Kudlit Gang” which was allegedly behind the series of roadside knife attacks in Candijay and Alicia in July.

According to Candijay Police Station commander Chief Insp. Joseph Berondo, they arrested three of the suspects through a drug buy-bust operation inside the Anuling Elementary School in Candijay at around 10 p.m. on Tuesday.

Police apprehended Elias Cagampang, a resident of Luan, Candijay who has been tagged as the mastermind behind the knife attacks which involved the slashing and piercing of victims walking along roads in Candijay and Alicia at nighttime.

The operation targeted Cagampang but police were also able to arrest his companions identified as Jezrel Ayuban and Jovani Morga, both residents of Alicia town.

All three suspects were allegedly caught in possession of shabu and were listed by authorities as “drug surrenderees” in their respective towns.

Berondo said that Cagampang during interrogation admitted to authorities that he was responsible for the knife attacks.

The suspects also told police that they attacked their victims just for fun.

Berondo noted that the suspects’ appearance and their motorcycles also matched description given by witnesses and some of the victims.

On Wednesday, police in Alicia arrested another alleged member of Cagampang’s group, Erwin Dutarot, 19, of Barangay Mahayag in Alicia.

According to PO1 Jonas Bersano of the Alicia Police Station, Dutarot who was allegedly inpossession of two packets of shabu was also arrested in a drug buy-bust operation.

Dutarot also adimitted that he was part of thegroup which carried out the series of knife attacks. (A. Doydora)
