Police have yet to identify the habal-habal (motorcycle-for-hire) driver who allegedly tried to rape a 35-year-old woman in Panglao on Sunday evening.

According to PO3 Gregorio Perocho, investigators are having difficulty in identifying the suspect as the victim, a Tagbilaran City resident, could not recall his facial features and the motorcycle’s plate number.

The victim also was unable to pinpoint which barangay the suspect took her during the incident at around 9 p.m. on Sunday.

Based on initial police investigation, the victim had just left from a birthday party in Barangay Tawala when she hailed and boarded the habal-habal.

The suspect then allegedly took the victim to a dimly lit area where he hit her in the head with a hard object and tried to rape her.

However, the victim was able to fight off the suspect and flee towards a van-for-hire station.

Drivers saw the bloodied victim and immediately rushed her to a hospital in Tagbilaran City.

Police meanwhile continued their probe on the case but have still yet to figure out if the habal-habal driver is from Panglao or Tagbilaran City.

Authorities also urged witnesses who saw the victim when she boarded the habal-habal to coordinate with the police. (ad)
