A vehicle carrying a barangay captain and his family including his wife, one-year-old daughter and daughter-in-law fell off a bridge in Candijay at past 9 a.m. on Tuesday.

All four victims suffered only minor injuries but were taken to a hospital by an ambulance of Candijay town for treatment.

According to PO2 Maxel Pequero of the Candijay police, the Bongo double cab driven by Bandirahan, Valencia Barangay Captain Arnel Gamba, 41, was headed towards Ubay when it plunged into a creek at the side of the Cabahan Bridge.

Pequero identified the other victims as Aurelia Madronero and Delia Gamba, the village chief’s daughter-in-law and wife, respectively, and their one-year-old daughter.

Arnel was about to overtake a motorcycle along the national road in Barangay La Union but the latter was about to make a turn.

This prompted Arnel to hit the brakes to avoid collision against the motorcycle but this caused his vehicle to go out of control instead.

The double cab went over the bridge while the motorcycle was able to turn safely.

Pequero said that authorities continued efforts to pull out the empty vehicle from the creek. (A. Doydora)
