The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has appealed for public understanding on the inconvenience caused by the ongoing construction of a portion of a bridge which connects Tagbilaran City to Cortes town.

Motorists, for a year, will have to bear with constant traffic congestion at the Sombria Bridge which links Barangay Manga in Tagbilaran City and Barangay Lapaz in Cortes as the DPWH, said First District Engineering Officer Francis Flores, continued work on the approach of the bridge.

According to Flores, workers continued to dig and rid the area of soft soil to reach a sturdier portion which will be concretized.

Flores said that they will still have to dig down for about 40 meters before reaching the ideal foundation for the concrete.

Meanwhile, rehabilitation of the Sombria Bridge itself has been completed.

The DPWH official also asked the public to travel with caution at the detour beside the under construction bridge approach to avoid accidents. (A. Doydora)
