A 21-year-old Army soldier died after his motorcycle accidentally slammed straight into the back of a cement mixer truck in Bilar town on Monday night.

Police Officer 3 Joel Calamba of the Bilar Police Station identified the victim as Private First Class Jake Torres of the Bohol-based 47th Infantry Battalion’s Alpha Company in Bilar town.

According to Calamba, Torres was traversing a national road in Barangay Poblacion when his motorcycle rammed the back of the mixer truck near a bridge in the area at around 7 p.m.

The truck’s driver, identified as Danilo Logronio, 56, of Inabanga, reportedly slowed down as he neared the bridge but Torres was unable to notice the truck as it reduced speed.

Torres was rushed to a hospital in Carmen and was later referred to the Governor Celestino Gallares Memorial hospital in Tagbilaran City where he succumbed to his injuries at around 10 p.m. on the same day.

Meanwhile, investigators found a helmet in the area which may have been used by the victim.

The protective headgear however had a damaged sling and may have been thrown off due to impact, Calamba said.

Logronio was taken into police custody but has been set to be released on Tuesday. (A. Doydora)
