A 17-year-old boy died while five others were injured following a three-vehicle collision in Loay on Saturday night.

The fatality, identified as Ruben Campilan, was declared dead on the spot while the others were rushed to the Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital in Tagbilaran City, said Staff Sgt. Jessem Balmoria.

According to Balmoria, the motorcycle which was carrying Campilan and driven by one Marvin Vinus collided head on against a sedan along a national highway in Barangay Yanangan at around 7:40 p.m.

Prior to the collission, Vinus sideswiped another motorcycle which had four people on board and driven by Wilson Agingtapan.

Agingtapan and his passengers crashed at the side of the road while Vinus headed straight into the sedan which was on the opposite lane.

“Mi-overtake ni silang Marvin maong nagpingki sila aning usa ka motor. Pagpingki, nalubag ning gasolinador maong mibangga sila aning Toyota Vios, gasugat,” said Balmoria.

The driver of the Toyota Vios, Rogelio Melaños, 30, was uninjured and was taken into police custody.

Vinus meanwhile was in critical condition while Agintapan and his passengers, Mercy Banluwag, Maribelle Migu and Marina Banawag, suffered minor injuries.

All of the victims including Campilan are cousins and were about to go to a political rally in the town.

Both Vinus and Campilan were wearing helmets during the accident but these were thrown away upon impact, said Balmoria.
