Man stabs live-in patner’s head in Tagbilaran

A woman landed in the hospital with a kitchen knife still lodged in the back of her head after she was allegedly stabbed by her live-in partner at their home in Tagbilaran City on Monday afternoon.

Luza Rhea Cofreros, a 39-year-old widow, is set to undergo surgery at the Governor Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital in Tagbilaran City while her partner, Joseph Batingal, 43, was arrested by police through a hot pursuit operation.

Batingal is set to be charged with frustrated homicide and violation against Republic Act 9262 or the Anti-Violence against Women and Children Act.

He was initially able to flee following the stabbing incident at their home in Barangay Cogon but was tracked down and arrested by police at his other residence in Barangay Poblacion III on the same day.

Police said that the couple figured in a heated argument which resulted in the stabbing incident. (wm)
