The driver’s license renewal center at the Island City Mall (ICM) will start to operate on Saturdays starting on June 22 as part of the Land Transportation Office’s (LTO) bid to provide convenience to the public.

Jubillee Dionsion, LTO Tagbilaran chief, said that the mall-based office will process applications for student’s permits and renewal of professional and non-professional driver’s licenses.

The inititative was implemented nationwide through a memorandum circular issued by the LTO ordering all its Driver’s License Renewal Offices (DLRO) in malls to operate on Saturdays starting this month.

“To fully maximize the accessibility and availability of our services to the public in malls, effective June 2019, all DLROs are hereby required to operate and process applications for renewal of driver’s licenses and issue student permits on Saturdays,” read the memo signed by LTO chief Assistant Secretary Edgar Galvante.

According to Dionsion, the DLRO at ICM was supposed to start Saturday operations last week. However, the office had to undergo a system maintenance which postponed the launching.

“Daghan og backlog. Mao na magtransact ta og renewals on Saturdays diri sa malls unya issue-han pud og student’s permit,” said Dionson.

The DLRO opens at 9:00 a.m. and closes at 6 p.m. on Saturdays.

Dionsion noted that the LTO branch at the Alturas Mall will not operate on Saturday as it is only a printing center. (A. Doydora)
