The Tagbilaran City local government unit (LGU) will temporarily close a single lane of a street in the city to make way for vendor-tenants of the fire-stricken Cogon Public Market who will temporarily be relocated to the area.

According to Tagbilaran City Mayor Baba Yap, canopies will be set up at a single lane of the Remolador Extension for vendors to sell their products.

“Nakapalit na ra ba sila sa mga stocks nila [vendors] di pud ta gusto na mangalata,” said Yap.

The LGU will close the other lane if needed pending monitoring when the initiative is implemented.

The measure will only be in effect for three days as vendors will be retransferred to the Cogon Public Market grounds where tents will be set up after authorities complete clearing operations.

Meanwhile, the mayor is set to meet with the city’s budget officer to discuss possible financial aid to the owners of the around 80 stalls which were razed by the fire on Wednesday afternoon.

“As much as possible atong gipangitaan og paagi na dili g’yud sila maundang sa ilang pagpamaligya,” said Yap.

The decades-old market is owned by the Tagbilaran City LGU. It was hit Wednesday afternoon by a fire which reached Task Force Alpha. (RT)
