The Sangguniang Panlalawigan has expressed alarm on the high incidence of suicide cases in the province.

Senior Board Member Dionisio Victor Balite of the 3rd District of Bohol raises his concern as he echoed the sentiments of the Boholano people on the alarming cases of suicide and suicide attempts committed mostly by youths.

Balite stressed that data from the World Health Organization show that close to 800,000 people in the world die annually due to suicide.  What is alarming, according to Balite, is that the said international health organization reported that suicide is the second leading cause of death among 15-29 year olds.

The manifestation of  Balite was an offshoot of some news reports and social media accounts regarding people who committed suicide impulsively.  Balite further noted that the reasons on most suicide cases in the province coincided with the report of the World Health Organization.

According to the World Health Organization, suicide cases happened so impulsively in moments of crisis with a breakdown in the ability to deal with life stresses, such as financial problems, chronic pain and illness, relationship break-ups.  Just recently, one suicide case in the province resulted from failure of a boyfriend to text back to the victim.

The manifestation of Senior Board Member Dionisio Victor Balite was referred to the Committee on Health and Public Sanitation and to the Committee on Women and Family Welfare of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Bohol.
