Outgoing regional director Engr. Modesto Membreve of the National Irrigation Administration (NIA-7) said that the cloud-seeding has no effect to Malinao and Bayongan dams located in the towns of Pilar and San Miguel, respectively.

But he gave assurance that the existing water supply of both huge dams – Malinao and Bayongan with a capacity of 5 million and 25 million cubic meters, respectively, – can well address the needs for this planting season.

Membreve who is retiring this current month said that it would really be hard to drive or form cloud for rain and drop to the intended targets like the dams since this largely depends on the weather.

The Malinao dam area is where the old concrete bridge emerges and visible from the highway.

A farmer in Pilar town said that when this happened it means that the water level of the dam is very low. He added that even with this prevailing situation (low level of Malinao dam) he’s still able to plant palay for next season harvest.

Membreve was one of the guests of the oath-taking ceremony of Buenavista town elected officials led by Mayor Atty. Dave Duallo.

He bared that he was able to earmark some Php300 million for the construction of a small reservoir impounding project in his barangay Catigbian.

This came as he also said that the Php600 million irrigation construction in barangay Bonobonot of this town is still going on.

The Bonotbonot project started during the incumbency of the late Mayor Sample Tirol. (With reports from rvo)
