Four men voluntarily surrendered to the Guindulman Police Station on Wednesday afternoon after they were notified that warrants of arrest were issued against them for online libel.

Corporal Expedito Hinampas of the Guindulman Police Station identified the suspects as Jhon Engelbert Liao, 50; Ralph Olandres, 21;  Britt Olaer, 24; and Adrian Hinacay, 28, all residents of the municipality of Guindulman.

According to Hinampas, the warrants of arrest for “libel thru and with the use of information and communications technology” were issued by the Regional Trial Court Branch 50 in Loay at 1 p.m. on Wednesday.

All four men however were released later on the same day after posting bail which was set at P10,000 each.

Guindulman-based radio broadcaster Fred Amora said that all four men publicly denounced town officials including councilors and the mayor through Facebook.

Invectives were launched against the officials on instances when they did not approve their proposals to organize pageants and other entertainment activities in the municipality.

“Ang ilang modus mao ang pag tanyag ug mga beauty pageant ug uban pang indigay sa kaanyag. Kon ang mayor o’ konsehal dili mo-aprobar sa ilang proposal nga dagko ang kantidad, ila kining tabangan pagdaot sa FB,” said Amora.

Both police and Amora did not indicate who filed the complaints against the suspects. (ad)
