(UPDATED – 11:10 a.m./10-1-2019) A couple died after their motorcycle crashed in Duero town on Sunday afternoon.

The fatalities were identified as Charmie Casundo, 22, and MacDJ Celomine, 20.

Casundo was rushed to the Teodoro Galagar Memorial Hospital in Jagna but was declared dead on arrival while Celomine succumbed to his injuries at the Governor Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital in Tagbilaran City on Monday morning, said Corporal Mark Kiamko of the Duero Police Station.

According to Kiamko, Casundo and Celomine who was driving the ill-fated motorcycle slammed into an electrical post located roadside in Barangay Itum, Duero at past 3 p.m. on Sunday.

“Walay kontra, walay kasugat. Maoy pong sa mga nakakita didto. Walay nagsunod na hing dumbol nila. Ni-dretso lang jud siya sa electrical post,” said Kiamko.

Meanwhile, Celomine was referred to the Governor Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital in Tagbilaran City where he later died of his injuries.

Both victims were wearing helmets as they travelled from Jagna to Candijay through Duero but authorities noted that they were likely travelling at high speed which may have led to their severe injuries.

According to Kiamko, the victims crashed along a long and straight national road which has been deemed as an accident-prone area.

“Kaning area sa Itum dinhi sa Duero prone g’yud ni siya sa disgrasya kay straight ang dalan unya ang mga driver iyahay lang og pakusog,” he added.

Authorities believed that the driver may have fallen asleep while driving or the vehicle’s brakes malfunctioned.
