A 27-year-old man died on Sunday morning after he was hit by lightning while fishing near the coast of Valencia town, Bohol.

The fatality, identified as Alvin Salise of Barangay Magsaysay, Valencia was drenched in rainwater when he was struck by lightning based on the statement of his companion Gary Maglupay, said Senior Master Sgt. Rey Edulsara of the Valencia Police Station.

Salise who was using a wooden rod to fish in shallow waters off Barangay Cutcutan died on the spot after he suffered severe injuries throughout his body.

“Kusog kaayo ag liti…direkta niigo niya. Iyang ulo buslot,” said Edulsara.

Maglupay meanwhile who was about “200 meters” away from Salise was uninjured.

According to Edulsara, personnel of the town’s Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office were deployed to the area but Salise was already lifeless when they arrived. (A. Doydora)
