DPWH completes 500 classrooms for K to 12

An ongoing huge construction boom in school classrooms continue in the 1st district of Bohol in support of the government’s K to 12 basic education program implemented by the Department of Education (DepED) Bohol Division.

1st District Engineer Francis Antonio Flores of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) told DYRD Balita that more than 500 classrooms have been completed in preparation for the full implementation of the K to 12 program.

Recognized as the “Best Implementor” of the DEPED school building program in partnership with the Provincial Government of Bohol, the construction of more school buildings is geared to address the backlog of classrooms in Bohol.

Flores said that a total of senior high students in the 1st district are now settled in 165 newly completed classrooms.

Bohol’s school buildings especially in the 1st district collapsed or suffered major damages due to the magnitude 7.2 earthquake that rocked Bohol on October 15, 2013.

The K to 12 (RA 10533) known as the Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013 was signed into law on May 15, 2013 by President Aquino covers Kindergarten and 12 years of basic education (six years of primary education, four years of Junior High School and two years of Senior High School). (Chito M.
