The Land Transportation Office (LTO) in Tagbilaran City will start to accept applications for registration of new vehicles next month, paving the way for the faster release of official receipts/certificates of registration (OR/CR) and license plates, an official said.

According to LTO Tagbilaran head Yvonne Auza, the localized registration for both motorcycles and four-wheel vehicles was approved by LTO chief, Assistant Secetary Vigor Mendoza.

Vehicle dealers will no longer have to go to Cebu City or Mandaue City where the processing of registration applications are conducted.

The current process is in line with the LTO’s policy of a regionalized application for motor vehicle registration which was implemented in 2014, barring local transactions at district offices.

“After ma process ang new registration, outright ma release ang plaka together with the OR/CR,” said Auza.

However, Auza noted that LTO Tagbilaran will only process applications filed by accredited dealers in Bohol.

“Ang atong ma cater na dealers kadto rang mga accredited dealers diri sa Bohol, so kung naa mo sa Cebu dili ta ka process sa inyong transaction, exclusively lang ta sa mga Bol-anon,” Auza said.

The LTO in Tagbilaran is also limited to accept only applications for registration of brand new vehicles.

“Ang surplus na mga dealers adto ra gihapon sila magpa-process sa Cebu,” Auza added.

The localized vehicle registration was proposed LTO VII director Glen Galario amid public clamor for the expedited release of license plates.

Both the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Bohol and the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Tagbilaran City have passed resolutions urging the LTO to carry out the registration process locally.

Clamor for the expedited registration process heightened when the LTO sent “Flying Squads” to Bohol to implement a strict crackdown against unregistered vehicles, particularly motorcycles without license plates.

The LTO operations drew heavy flak from the public due to apprehensions against vehicle owners whose license plates have not yet been released by the agency. (A. Doydora)
