The victim sits at the Gov. Celestino Galleres Memorial Hospital after his nephew allegedly set him on fire causing third degree burns all over his body.

A 53-year-old man was set on fire by his nephew who was allegedly drunk on Sunday evening in Purok 6, Barangay Manga, Tagbilaran City.

The victim, identified as Albino Serrano, a resident of the said village, suffered third degree burns all over his body.

According to Serrano, he was already about to sleep when the suspect, 24-year-old Dionisio Mission, also a Manga Purok 6 resident, entered his room and poured gasoline over him.

Serrano said that the suspect then set him on fire using a lighter.

Neighbors of the victim were immediately able to respond and help put the fire out and rush Serrano to the Governor Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital.

The injuries suffered by the victim were not life-threatening but the incident caused deep burns in various parts of his body.

Meanwhile, the suspect surrendered to Manga Barangay Captain Toni Restauro after fleeing the crime scene right after the incident.

Police then took Mission into custody and jailed him at the detention facility of the Tagbilaran City police pending the filing of charges against him. (Allen Doydora)
