Official results of the latest countrywide census released by the Philippine Statistics Authority last May 19, 2016 showed the country’s population as of 12:01 a.m. of August 1, 2015 is 100,981,437.

This shows a significant increase of 8.64 million compared to the 2010 population count of 92,337,852 or an average increase of 1.72 percent every year during the period 2010 to 2015.

Among the 18 administrative regions Region IV-A (CALABARZON) had the biggest population  with 14.41 million, followed by the National Capital Region (NCR) with 12.88 million, and Region III (Central Luzon) with 11.22 million. The combined population of these three regions accounted for about 38.1 percent of the Philippine population in 2015.

In Region VII the total population is 6,041,903.  Among the different provinces in our region, excluding the population of the highly urbanized cities of Cebu, Mandaue and Lapulapu, revealed the province of Cebu, at the top spot with 2,938,982.  The province of Bohol now has its population at 1,313,560 and Siquijor with 95,984.

Among the 81 provinces in the country, the province of Cavite had the largest population of 3.68 million. While, Batanes at the northern tip of Luzon was the smallest with 17,246.

Of all the 1,489 municipalities in the country the top three municipalities with the largest population in 2015 are all located in the province of Rizal.  These are the municipalities of Rodriguez (Montalban), Cainta and Tatay.  All three registered a population count of more than three hundred thousand.

In our  beloved province of Bohol, the northern municipality of Ubay had the largest population of 73,712.  Talibon had the second largest with 66,969 followed by the municipality of Carmen with 46,306.

As of August 1, 2015 the total population of the city of Tagbilaran is 105,051 from 96,792 in 2010.  Among the fifteen barangays, barangay Cogon had the highest population of 17,750.  Barangay Cabawan was the least populous with 1,734 residents.
