Streetlights worth P3 million will be installed along the national highway in Maribojoc in a bid to increase illumination in the heavily used road and deter criminal activities.
According to Maribojoc Mayor Gomersindo Arocha, 75 lampposts will be installed along the stretch of the national road from the Abatan Bridge until the Loon-Maribojoc border in Punta Cruz.
Arocha said that the P3 million for the project will be sourced from a budget awarded by the Department of Interior and Local Government.
The amount was funneled to the LGU when it attained the Seal of Good Local Governance.
Meanwhile, the town’s Sangguniang Bayan has also expressed support for the initiative which is part of the local government unit’s drive against crime by minimizing unilluminated areas in the municipality.
Arocha said that the bidding for the project could start as early as next month.
To prevent intentional damage to the lampposts, the LGU will enlist the aid of residents to monitor the streetlights, added Arocha. (Rey Tutas)
