A man allegedly stabbed his wife to death using a bolo inside their home in Barangay Del Monte, Alicia on Sunday before also piercing himself repeatedly with the same bladed tool.
Suspect Efren Butlig Sr., 55, reportedly stabbed his wife Honoraria, 54, multiple times with a 19-inch bolo in various parts of her body leading to her instantaneous death at 5 a.m.
According to the couple’s son, Janniel who had just arrived from a village disco, he saw his mother drenched in her own blood inside his parents’ room.
His father also had his hand bloodied, said Janniel who was with his two sisters and brother.
Efren then allegedly tried to slit Janniel’s neck but the suspect was pacified by one of his daughters.
Moments later, the suspect stabbed himself inflicting four stab wounds in his stomach.
According to authorities, Efren is still recovering from the self-inflected stab injuries while Honoraria immediately succumbed to her injuries following the incident.
He was apprehended by operatives of the Alicia Police Station which launched a hot pursuit against him while investigators have yet to identify the suspect’s motive in allegedly killing his wife.
Dr. Haidee Lungay said that Honoraria sustained stab wounds in her left leg, left knee and chest.
The victim died of cardiac arrest due to hypovolemic shock caused by the multiple stab wounds, said Lungay. (Kimberly D. Gango, HNU MassComm intern)
