Cabinet Secretary Leoncio Evasco categorically said that he is not running for governor of Bohol.
The answer of Mr. Evasco was still negative even if Boholanos will prevail upon him to run for governor of Bohol.
When asked the possibility that if he decide to run for governor, some Bohol political leaders including third district congressman Arthur Yap, viewed as a strong contender for the position will withdraw from the race, his answer was still “no”.
Evasco, a former mayor of Maribojoc, said that he intends to finish his six-hectare agri-ecotourism project he started in his municipality.
However, he hinted he might reconsider his decision when destiny wills it. In this case, it was clear that the destiny he was referring to included not only services to the people but above all is the approval of Pres. Rodrigo Duterte for him to run as governor of Bohol.
At the same time, Evasco who is also the chairman of the National Food Authority Council, the policy-making body of NFA blamed corruption as behind the proliferation of mall and supermarket construction which slowly eroded our agricultural farms in the country.
Such construction in the name of industrialization tended to reduce our agricultural lands that are instead converted to concrete buildings in the country, he observed.
Such situation has contributed to the never-ending rice crises that resorted massive importation of rice from other countries. (Peddy Bolanio)
