A police officer will be facing criminal and administrative cases for allegedly firing his gun indiscriminately as he vented out anger following a dispute against his wife in Cortes.

Authorities identified the cop as PO2 Marlon Hinay, a cop assigned to the San Isidro Police Station and a resident of Barangay Malayo Sur, Cortes.

According to PO3 Joel Orapa of the Cortes police, the criminal complaint for alarm and scandal was set to be filed against Hinay yesterday while the administrative case is being handled by officials in Camp Dagohoy.

Based on witnesses’ accounts, the incident happened at past 6 p.m. on Wednesday after a heated argument between Hinay and his wife, said Orapa.

Several gunshots were then heard after the verbal tussle, residents told police.

Hinay reportedly fired his gun nine times causing villagers to scramble and flee the area out of fear while others reported the incident to police.

Responding policemen however were not able to arrest Hinay as he was able to immediately leave the area.

The Cortes police then notified Camp Dagohoy regarding the incident.

According to Orapa, Hinay remained on-duty for the San Isidro Police Station pending the filing of the criminal complaint against him.

Orapa did not elaborate on what actions will be taken against Hinay after the filing of the case as he noted that this will be up to officials in Camp Dagohoy. (Allen Doydora)
