Some of the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nation) delegates who will be attending meetings of the 10-nation bloc in Cebu City starting July 1 are expected to visit Bohol, said a Capitol official.
According to Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Anthony Damalerio, he was told by the Office of the Civil Defense in Central Visayas that the ASEAN leaders will be touring Bohol amid their dialogues in Cebu.
The ASEAN meetings are scheduled on July 1 until July 7 at various areas in Cebu City.
Police Regional Office-7 Director Chief Superintendent Noli Taliño told Cebu media that heightened security measures have already been implemented in the province’s capital city particularly as the clashes in Marawi City continued.
Around 4,600 security personnel will be dispatched to various locations in Cebu City during the weeklong event, said Taliño.
Meeting venues such as The Radisson Blu Hotel will be tightly guarded, he added.
However, Taliño noted that law enforcement intelligence units have not detected any security threat that could mar the meetings in Cebu City.
On April 19 to 21, Bohol also hosted a series of ASEAN meetings on trade matters at the Henann Resort in Panglao.
The conference also included the meeting of the AHKFTA (Free Trade Agreement between ASEAN and Hong Kong) Trade Negotiating Committee. (RT)
