An 82-year-old woman fell prey to suspected “Akyat Bahay” thieves who were able to steal away cash from her home in Barangay Cogon, Tagbilaran City on Monday.

The victim identified as Celedonia Gamayot, a resident of Gardenville along Calceta Street, reportedly arrived home with her main door left wide open and her money gone.

Gamayot reported to police that as she searched the contents of her home, she found out that her bag containing P8,000 was missing and taken by the suspects.

Gamayot was in Garcia Hernandez when the incident happened according to her statement to the police.

Meanwhile, police indicated in its initial investigation that the suspects passed through a window as they went inside Gamayot’s empty house.

Personnel of the Tagbilaran City Police Office’s theft and robbery section have been tasked to conduct a follow-up investigation on the case.

Authorities assigned to the case pointed out the possibility that Gamayot was victimized by an “Akyat Bahay” group. (WM)
