The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has issued a warning to Tagbilaran City tricycle drivers who operate beyond the city noting that heavy penalties will be meted out against them for said violation.
This was after tourist van drivers and operators raised a complaint against tricycle drivers who offer rides to passengers, particularly tourists, at the Tagbilaran City seaport taking them to Panglao.
Tourist van operators complained that tricycle drivers have been offering to take passengers to the resort town for a fixed rate of at least P200.
According to LTO Tagbilaran administrative officer Aloy Balazuela, Tagbilaran City tricycles are prohibited from operating in Bohol towns.
Those caught committing vthe iolation will be fined P6,000, he said.
Meanwhile, some tricycle drivers have admitted to having given rides to passengers and taking them to Panglao.
The P200-fee was just too big to pass up particularly during off peak days when there were fewer commuters in the city, they said.
However, Balazuela that no considerations will be given to those caught committing the violation.
He also urged the riding public to avoid taking tricycles to Panglao or other towns as these do not have insurance which can be used during untoward incidents such as road accidents.
The same warning to tricycle drivers was also issued against “colorum” or unregistered tourists vans that ply the Tagbilaran-Panglao route. (Allen Doydora)
