Tagbilaran councilor falls prey to call, text scam

A Tagbilaran City councilor on Friday reported to police a modus operandi carried out by a still unidentified suspect who used his name to order and purchase products from various establishments.

Councilor Joseph Bompat, 31, a resident of J.A. Clarin Street in Tagbilaran told police that he was forced to shell out money as payment for the bogus orders.

According to Bompat, the suspect ordered various products through calls and texts and had these delivered to the Tagbilaran City Hall.

The suspect also allegedly asked for cellphone load from establishments where the products were ordered.

Following the incident, the city legislator urged the public to be vigilant and to avoid transactions with suspicious personalities particularly those who only communicate through calls and texts.

Meanwhile, the Tagbilaran City Police Station’s theft and robbery section was tasked to investigate the case. (WM)
