Amid renewed complaints on exorbitant tricycle fares, the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) on Friday reiterated its stern stance against trike drivers operating within the Tagbilaran port area who overcharge passengers.

According to PPA Tagbilaran City manager Engr. James Gantalao, all tricycles will be banned from operating within the port premises even if only one trike driver is caught overcharging.

Gantalao issued the statement after several commuters, through station dyRD, aired their complaints against tricycle drivers who ask for overpriced fares.

Personnel of the PPA in Tagbilaran will be conducting an investigation to verify the complaints, he said.

The port official also bared that the PPA has already issued strict directives for tricycle drivers operating within the facility.

Only 10 tricycles from a trike association were permitted to to have loading areas inside the port while they wait for boat passengers, Gantalao said.

There are also other tricycles waiting outside the pier which can take in passengers who are willing to walk from the docking area, he added.

In November last year, PPA executive assistant Epelito Arao-arao II said that tricycle drivers at the pier vowed to eradicate the practice of overcharging passengers.

The PPA stopped receiving complaints from passengers against errant tricycle drivers operating in the port area since then, Arao-arao said in 2016. (A. Doydora)
