Sikatuna town to celebrate centennial year

The town of Sikatuna is set to commemorate its 100th founding anniversary starting Sunday with various activities held throughout the following week.

According to Sikatuna Mayor Jose Ellorimo Jr., Assistant Cabinet Secretary Jann Roby Otero will be attending the town’s main centennial celebration on December 5 as guest speaker.

Sikatuna’s new P19.5-million municipal hall will also be inaugurated on December 5, the actual foundation day of the town.

The weeklong event will start on December 3 with basketball games between the Philippine Councilors League-Bohol and the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, and PMI College and Bohol Institute of Technology.

Various activities including a fun run, photo gallery exhibit, agricultural fair and traditional games will then be held on December 4.

On the same day, the town will also showcase Miss Sikatuna 2017.


Other activities such as the Cambuyod Festival Street Dancing Competition which will be joined by the town’s 10 barangays will also be held during the weeklong festivities.

Prior to its foundation as a municipality on December 5, 1917, Sikatuna was part of the towns of Alburquerque and Balilihan.

Its foundation as a municipality was carried out through an executive order signed by Governor-General Francis Burton Harrison. (R. Tutas)
